“We don’t quit” – that has been the motto of Red Rock Search and Rescue since they began their first recovery mission in 2012. The all-volunteer team that makes up the nonprofit organization is on call 24/7 and is always ready to be deployed. Dan and his team constantly find themselves navigating through treacherous terrain in harsh weather conditions.
Recently, the Red Rock truck, which also serves as the command post for search and rescue missions, was outfitted with an Axios bar. Dan had one word: amazed. “I’m not really familiar with lightbars, but the way you can convert the Axios plug and play features…it was easy to figure out and fast to install.”
But for Las Vegas’ most dedicated search and rescue volunteers, the visibility the lightbar provided during late-night missions was what made Axios rise above the rest. “We could drive out a mile away from the vehicle and you could easily see the light – that’s critical for us,” Dan added. The team goes out when it’s absolutely black. For instance, during a recent mission, when a hiker who was known to roam abandoned mines and caves went missing, volunteers were called to assist. “When 30 or 40 volunteers are showing up, they can see that light and find our command post straightaway. The brilliance of it compared to what we previously had is night and day. It’s like going from an old Chevy to a Ferrari.”
Dan has big plans for his new command post (the original one, which was a toy hauler, was ruined in an accident). Through donations, he hopes to build an even bigger and well-lit command center, which will definitely include another Axios lightbar.
